EDUCATION

I believe that education equals opportunity. My own journey through the public school system was shaped by teachers who rallied behind me, providing the stability and encouragement I needed to thrive. Today, I see that same passion in my friends and family members who serve as public school educators. Their dedication is a constant reminder that when we support our schools, we are supporting our children.

We cannot claim that “children are our future” while simultaneously allowing efforts to dismantle public education. While changes are needed, we must look at the school system as a whole to see where the gaps are and work toward repairing it. firmly reject any attempt to fully defund our schools or weaken this essential resource. My approach is simple: we must stop treating education as an expense to be cut and start treating it as an investment to be secured.

AFFORDABILITY

Like most of the nation, Texas is facing an affordability crisis. Some households are cutting back expenses for everyday essentials To solve the rising cost of living, we need our State and County governments to work in harmony rather than in opposition. For many of us, the current lack of alignment between these levels of government has created uncertainty, and I am committed to bringing everyone to the table to find a sustainable way forward.

We must also ensure that the "Texas Miracle" works for everyone by raising the minimum wage to a true living wage. No Texan working a full-time job should live in poverty, and a stronger wage floor benefits our entire economy. This commitment to our workforce must also apply to the companies moving into our state. I believe that if a business wants to call Texas home, they should be required to hire Texans first. My priority is protecting the people who have invested their lives in our communities, ensuring our state remains a place where hard work is rewarded and families can afford to stay.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Disaster preparedness cannot stop at the county or state level. When the lights go out, the county and state are not coming to turn them back on. When a home floods, they are not there to walk families through filing claims or making critical calls. Communities and individuals need the tools and resources to protect themselves before disaster strikes.

I believe more resources must be allocated directly to communities for emergency preparedness. This includes financial support for households to strengthen resilience because no family should have to choose between safety and affordability. Today, individuals are expected to go above and beyond by shelling out hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to have electricity. That is unrealistic and inequitable.

As someone who worked with homeowners and renters during Hurricane Harvey, I have seen firsthand the difference that preparedness makes. Stronger support for local preparedness activities saves lives, protects assets, and reduces long-term recovery costs. Texas must invest in community-level resilience programs, and education so that when disaster strikes, families are ready and not left behind.
